Set back in a farmers field, in the most idyllic setting, next to a peaceful little river, it's a favourite haunt of ours, especially on a beautiful summers evening. Situated by the harbour, the castle and it's beautifully manicured gardens, craft shop and tearoom are well worth a visit. Just a 14km or 17 minute drive from Conroy's Old Bar, on top of a hill, you will find the beautiful Redwood Castle. Although privately owned, Redwood is open to the public for tours, workshops, afternoon teas and craft fayre's. Birr Castle Gardens is next on our list, at a short 18km drive from Conroy's Old Bar. You can spend a full day enjoying yourselves here. There's something for all ages, both the young and the young at heart. What was once the world's largest telescope stands majestically in it's grounds and is a real sight to behold. The world's tallest box hedging is a real feature of the stunning gardens and Ireland's largest tree house will have the family entertained for hours. With an interesting discovery centre and a lovely tearoom and craft shop too. 205664373 Pallas Castle, Co.Galway. Pallas Castle comes next, at just 23km away. And this one is a real discovery! It's not in too many of the guide books or tourist information leaflets and isn't very well sign posted, but once there, it sure is impressive. And last but by no means least Nenagh, our nearest large town, is home to Nenagh Castle set in it's heart and just a 24km drive from our little pub with no beer. This unique castle, being perfectly round, is a must see!
